Designed Armour: Viktor & Rolf Haute Couture A/W...
RUSSIAN DOLL COLLECTION
Beautiful robot, Maggie Rizer, performs the debilitating task of withstanding heat and immense weight in multiple layers of heavy Viktor & Rolf couture. Not a drop of sweat wept from her blemish-free, steel forehead as she rotated apathetically to the great amusement of the fashion crowd. This presentation marked the design brilliance of Viktor Horsting and...

I’m not particularly fond of the styling, photography or choice of models. However, I do enjoy the locations and set design:

Designed Tool: Chanel Winter 2009 Snowboard
Chanel gives us this Canadian maple snowboard. I need it. I crave it. I taste it. I wonder the remarks I would receive whilst standing in-line with the other “bro” boarders? They’d probably remark on how beautiful my board is — and we would continue gushing about the new BUTT issue and how off the new Pantone color of the year is. A perfect day.

Designed Image: V.I.A. Logo
Vancouver is Awesome’s new crest is amazing. Dogwood, skunks, ‘coons, and totems: What other than those four images fills our days and nights better? For those who don’t know, the above crest gestures to British Columbia’s coat of arms (below).

Designed Armour: Nike x Maharam High-Top
The new Maharam design for Nike. Made of woven horsehair on antique looms, these retail for $250. The above high-top is my favourite of the three. Isn’t unsustainable excess amazing?

INTERGALACTIC TRANSPORT BLACKMARKET
This dark whimsy speaks to my imitation artiness. ITB make some breathtaking quilts. My breath is taken when viewing, when wrapped, when underneath, and when I get my Visa bill. You should probably buy one, they have the small price of $2,000.
Designed Image: Shelley Reed
Shelley Reed’s monochrome portraits and still life’s gesture to similar historical compositions. Still, I ask: Ode or imitation? Whatever. Now, I just wanna go and overdose on Triazolam and have some hunky doctor pump my stomach full of charcoal so I can barf up a beautiful composition competitive to the above.

Commonly known as witch hazel, this blossom is pungent and prehistoric. Top image in the home of Vancouver based artist, Sarah Edmonds. Now in season.

Designed Statement: Roger Hiorns - Seizure
Roger Hiorn, a British artist recently nominated for the 2009 Turner Prize, pumped 75,000 L of copper sulphate in to an entire ex-Council flat in South London. Crystals formed over every surface of the interior, creating an arresting blue dominance.

Designed Woman: Alice Rawsthorn
Alice Rawsthorn is a design critic for the International Herald Tribune and contributes with a weekly column. Not limiting herself to just one side of the Atlantic, she also contributes to The New York Times Magazine with the Object Lesson column. And may I be so bold to argue her own life is an agenda to a designed mind: carefully choosing where to learn, what to read, how to interpret. She is a...

Designed Experience: Last Day @ Van Alen
So Friday was my last day at Van Alen Institute, and we decided to let loose:
1. Lunch at City Bakery.
2. Dinner at Barrio Chino (the margaritas always have me coming back.)
3. Drinks at Gramercy Hotel (Julian Schnabel is good.)
4. PRESENTS!
They gave me the Bauhaus text that was published to accompany the exhibit currently at MoMA. Chris and Chialin are the greatest pair to work under:...

Designed Interiors: Selexyz Dominicanen Bookstore
Part of the Selexyz bookstore chain, the Selexyz Dominicanen bookstore was chosen to next be placed in an old Dominican church in Maastricht, Netherlands. Successfully mutating the purpose of the space from a place of godly worship, to that of worship for the craft of the book, the space itself is gorgeous. Arguably the most inspiring renovation of reappropriation I’ve even seen. Thanks...
Designed Event: Staying In - The Bedroom Pity...
This is the view of my last free night before the oncoming 2.5 weeks. Deciding to do nothing, I watched movies: Weekend, Episode 1/Season 5 of Six Feet Under, and of course, the ever motivating, Devil Wears Prada. No judgements, please. My social life has already pretty much gone down the drain, and it will even more over the coming 15 days. Fuck yeah.
